Mt Southington - 2/22/2004

Although very small as far as ski areas go, Mt. Southington is pretty convenient to most residents of Connecticut. Today was a pretty good day. The sun was shining, the temps were pretty warm, the wind wasn't too bad... Plus it was fairly uncrowded at Southington. Lift lines were nearly non-existant. The few times we had to wait in line, it was only behind 1 or 2 people.
Snow was pretty good in the morning. Granular and groomed, it was a bit icy in the shade but nice and soft in the sunny spots. As the day wore on, the snow got slushy, making it difficult to turn and keep a consistent speed. By 2PM we left as the snow was just too wet and slushy for me.
Overall, a pretty good skiing day. I would have traded the nice weather for drier, more powdery snow any day...but you have to take what you can get! After all, there are probably only a few more weeks left before places like Southington shut down for the season...
