Mendon/Killington 12-2-06

Date(s) Hiked: 12-2-06

Trails(s) Hiked: Logging Road, Bushwhack, Logging Road, Herd Path, AT/LT, Killington Spur, Bucklin (all in one big loop!)

Total Distance: ~10

Difficulty: Very Difficult

Conditions: Snowy at times, Very cold/windy at Killington summit

Special Required Equipment: GPS and or compass/Altimeter for Bushwhack

Trip Report:

There is something to say about bushwhacks. They are a bit more satisfying than regular trail hikes (for me). They carry a sense of more accomplishment because they require many more skills and much more effort. I had a blast doing Mendon. I encountered two Moose (possibly the same one twice, not sure). The views were great despite the angry rain clouds. Since I had the time I also hit Killington by following the logging road east, until it turned into a herd path which led to the LT.

I got the opportunity to watch them making tons of snow on Killington (and pictures too). Great hike! This wraps up the VT peaks on the NEHH list!
