| Wachusett Opening Day 12/08/06 Date(s) Skied: 12/08/06 Resort or Ski Area: Wachusett Mountain, MA Conditions: LSGR Trip Report: Ahh, the first day of the season. Makes it better when the first day of the season is pretty good. 3 trails open today: Conifer, Indian Summer, and Ollie's. Here's the trail-by-trail and then some other stuff. Conifer: When I got there at 3, it was a bit scratchy, but there was good loose stuff to the sides. This continued until about 7 when the wind pretty much cleaned all the loose stuff into the woods. Nontheless, the coverage was great with most of the trail covered edge-to-edge and seemingly a good foot of base. Polar Express had a 15 chair wait or so around 6, but otherwise it was pretty much ski-on. The lift was running slower than normal to keep too many people from piling onto Conifer. Indian Summer: Took one run down it around 6. It was pretty good although the snowguns were blasting which kinda screwed up some goggles. Base is pretty good and goes from skiers right to about under the lift. Lift looked pretty much ski on all night and seemed to be running up to normal speed (it would be practically stopped if it went any slower lol). Guns were blasting away at Sundowner, Indian Summer, Look Mom, Challenger, Ralph's Run, and Ollies. A decent crowd, but certainly not close to what Wa gets midseason. So, a good start to the 06-07 albeit late. I'll have another Wa report tomorrow night.
