| First MTB Outing | Ski Sundown - 1/19/2007 Date(s) Skied: Friday, 1/19/2007 Resort or Ski Area: Ski Sundown, New Hartford, CT Conditions: Man made, groomed, and a 1/2 inch dusting of the good stuff, low-mid 30s, no wind in the AM, winds picked up in the PM Trip Report: I rolled up at 8:30. I was booted up and ready to go at 8:59. I was riding the lifts at 9:00. From the base it was the best I've seen Sundown this season. Gunbarrel was open and looking pretty. They only had the yellow chair running today. I cranking it out from 9 - 11. I started by doing each trail once (Canyon Run, Nor' Easter, Temptor, Stinger, and Gunny). Canyon Run was in good shape. Nor'Easter was good as well but a bit scratchy at the bottom in the shade. Temptor was great. Stinger was nice too but they added a few more terrain park features up top. Gunny was pretty firm early on. I spent most of the morning on Canyon, Nor'Easter and Temptor. I did one last run on Gunny before grabbing some lunch. Despite the lack of sun it was starting to soften a bit. After some over-priced soup I went right back out to Gunny. I mixed it up but was able to do 5 runs on Gunny. Gunny was just soft enough as the sun was peaking in and out of the clouds from 11 - 1. Around 1 I noticed them setting up for racing. I cranked it back over to Temptor. I threw in a few runs on Canyon Run to mix it up. But I spent a lot of time on Temptor until 3. As the school busses rolled I rolled out. The blues were starting to get skied off. Canyon was in the best shape of the 3 blues. Temptor was still in decent shape but developed a few more scratchy sections. My last run on Gunny was around 1 but in appeared to still be in good shape when I left. Last edited by Grassi21; Jan 19, 2007 at 5:17 PM. |
