| Attitash 2007-01-20 From their website, today: The snow is good - very good. The best of the season. I know I've said it before, but it's true every time - the conditions just keep getting better! Packed powder is the word, and it has been virtually flawless all week long. We got a late start, skiied a bit and have already returned. Let me start off by saying that they are doing the very best they can with what Mother Nature is not giving them. They have it rough in that regard. No one could fault them for that. That being said: Who are they kidding? The snow is not good, very good. It is all man made stuff. On top of ice and boilerplate. Add today's wind and you have wind drifts of manmade snow here and there, while the surfaces is ..... challenging... is that the right word? They may well be the best of the season, but the snow is terrible. I understand "marketing" and casting the story in as good a light as you can. But this kind of "embellishment"....I'll be reading their snow reports with a doubting mind from here on in. If they'd only tell me just how it was, I'd still come, knowing better what to expect. That's right, I'd still go, and not fault them for what Mother Nature is not giving them. But that sense of deception...... I have some difficulty with that.

| Attitash does seem to have consistent boilerplate conditions. I'll go there a couple of times a year on the rare occasion I'm not up for a longer drive. It is nice going there on a mellow weekday. You can't beat parking right next to the Bear Peak lodge. Their snowmaking is outclassed by a bunch of other places, though. I don't know what "the most powerful snowmaking system in New Hampshire" means, but you can easily find better. On a positive note, I skied Sunday River Wed. and Thur. this week, and the conditions were amazingly good. In terms of snowmaking, they are kicking ass. |
