Plattekill Mountain, February 3, 2007:

Introduction: Went up to Plattekill for my last day of instruction training. Got up at around 8:30.

Weapon of Choice: Option Supercap 149

Conditions: Got to take some runs before the mountian opened, hit up The Face with a ski patroller (snowboarder) and his freind. Awesome pow on the right side. Powder was there for most of the day, but by 3 it was sort of bumpy and a bunch of grass and stuff was poking through. Sundown was groomed, and there was a real nice kicker on the right side. Sundown started to get icy later in the day however. The left side of the mountain was open, and I took my first runs ever off the double chair lift. Northface was decent but the snow guns were going so my first run I couldn't see a damn thing and must have fallen 2 or 3 times. After that I realized I could ski right next to the guns or as far to the right as I could to avoid the blinding snow, so I hit up the powder a few more times (face shots!!!). I had to go in for a lesson at 10, and when I got back out at 11-ish I took another run on The Face. Terrain Park was okay, I only hit the table once and the spine was more of a weird kicker thing, but not bad. Landings were getting pretty icy towards the end of the day. Powder Puff stayed groomed well, as did some of the smaller crossover trails. The Face and Northface got real scraped around my last few runs, but the closed trails had tons of pow and I hit a few up before they got too tracked (lot of rope ducking today). Had another lesson from 1-3 so I guess the conditions really deteriorated while I was on the bunny slopes with that. Got some good runs in with some other instructors.

Weather: Sunny with temps in the teens, had to go in once or twice to warm up.

Lifts: No lines.

Notes: I'm finally done with my training, so I can now take out lessons on my own.

Rating: 8/10

Conclusion: Good conditions, a bit cold though.

Once they open up a few more of the good runs, Like Blockbuster, I'll definitely be heading up there on Sundays. I have a place not far from there and it's my choice to beat the crowds at hunter. Speaking of Hunter you have to hit the place on a Monday, best day to go there.

I took first tracks down block saturday morning before opening and it was sweet!! 11'" of pow on top 8" on the bottom. The problem is everybody else followed my lead and it was tracked out and grass by noon. Powder but no base.

not a true 11. Alot was windblown drifts. Totals from the lake effect were more like 6-8. Either way at 7:30 in the morning it was sweet.
