| The MMM Trail The MMM Trail (Mattabesett, Metacomet, Monadnock trails) are under review to become National Historic Trails. The NPS is reviewing this for consideration. If the trails do gain the status, the NPS will change the names of the trails to just one name and also extend the trail from it's terminus in Middletown, CT to reach Long Island Sound. An important side note here is that the Metacomet Trail features some of the best rock climbing locations in Connecticut, but the plans currently do not reflect protecting these traditional climbing routes. The same can be said for the forests in which the trail will run. I beleive that protecting these resources is in the best interest of protecting the trail. The Appalachian Trail has the same problem, many miles of trail have been diverted due to land sale or other dispute. I think the NPS should protect the very land the trail runs through to ensure that the trail will be there for generations to come.

| Interesting news! Have you got a link to any NPS documents on the subject? Are they accepting public comment on the proposal?

| The official public response process has already conluded, but if you contact the department heads in the NPS. You can get started by following this link: http://www.ctwoodlands.org/MMM/MMM_Study.html and follow the trail of links that take you to the NPS personnel on the project. There wasn't that much press about all of this and I found out several months ago by accident. An interesting note is that they are still considering the route for the extended portion of the Mattabesett trail that will lead to Long Island Sound (besides the fact that the project is still being considered).
