Solitude 2/223/07

Date: 2/23/07
Resort: Solitude, Utah
Condtions: Powder, no packed powder, and more powder. Did I mention there was powder?

We landed in Utah yesterday, by the time we got our car, Vee's new skis from Steep and Cheap, checked into the room, it was too late to ski. No problem though, it was 66 degrees where we're staying in Sandy, joked that we made a mistake and went to Florida. This morning, we woke up to snow! Go to Solitude, the Canyon road was treacherous. Conditions however were great!!! Me and V took one run down and decided to go to the car to take a few layers off, was getting a bit warm working our way through all the pow As we get to the car, my phone rings, it's Zook, she justed rolled in with her posse. We went out checked out the mountain and I'm happy to report we couldn't find one groomed trail! Runs of the day were Rollercoaster a nice bump run under the lift line. And Honeycomb Canyon was pretty sweet, the only problem was the part that you traverse for some of the steep sections was closed for avalanche control. By 1 we went for lunch and then back out by 1:30. At this point it really started snowing hard again and V thought it might be a good idea to leave. She feared that they may close the Canyon road. Considering this was our first day, I couldn't argue. Tomorrow I'll check conditions before we go out, but for now it's looking like Powder Mountain. I've heard a lot of good things about it, especially from some of the locals on Firsttracksonline.

Road going up to Solitude:

V, Zook and her posse

snow starting up again in the afternoon.

Did you say: "Powder?"

Wondered when we would hear from you Andy. Looks like you're experiencing a real UT "snow-job!" Enjoy!

Nice! Solitude is a gem, mostly overlooked. Never had a bad time there.
