Stowe 2/25...Great Day

Yesterday was one of the best blue-bird days I can remember in the last
couple of seasons. Its been over 10 days since the big storm but the snow is
staying in great condition with the exception of lower elevation south facing
slopes which have been getting a little manky. The snow reminded me a lot of
February in Colorado with some untracked powder stashes still out there,
chalky bumps and dry texture overall even though it felt downright hot
outside; skiing in temps in the 20’s under full sun with no wind feels like skiing
in an oven. I’ve forgotten how much I’d adapted to the 0F with 40mph wind
type of weather conditions. Colors on the mountain and the surrounding
Green Mtns were amazingly clear. The deep blue sky almost looked fake until
some high clouds rolled in during the afternoon, creating a more milky-like sky.

Then we did a few runs between Bypass, upper Goatdive, Midway/Pump-house
woods, and stayed in the hardwoods all the way to the bottom. Next
sequence is Dave’s Bypass pillow line…drop over deadfall, land and immediately
hit the diving board into the meadow below.

Upper GoatDive.

The last steep pitch in the vicinity of the Quad was sweet wind-blown powder
that allowed you to just rip down the wall. Dave goes after it…

We spent the afternoon connecting the spaces off Chin Clip and we covered
some serious ground…a lot of the “sucker” lines are pretty sweet if you can
handle a little bush-wacking. The way to do it is just point ‘em straight and
haul ssa through the brush while praying for another opening in the forest.
The rewards can be pretty sweet and there’s plenty of untracked out there…
we were able to ski right back down to the Gondi with no walking on any of
these trips.

Definitely a top-5-this-season day and the mountain is skiing phenomenally.
I’ll be back up there tomorrow.

To add to my last post: I was actually there too.. Unfortunately I didn't know ahead of time where I was going to be going as I was on a bus trip, otherwise I would've posted something to the Trips forum (not that you'd want me tagging along, but I would've loved to have you as a guide I'm sure ). Can't wait to see your report from today!

These pictures definitely question us city folks on why we don't listen to Warren Miller's quote.... "quit your job, move to a ski resort and ski your butt off" or something like that.

It was awefully nice yesterday. Skiiing up near Eden I actually had my shirt off on the summit to get my poly pro dry. We had a good view of Mansfield and the Whites which lookd SO close. Skiied a steep line that we cut this fall and for the first time it didn't sough off. Super sweet day. I think alot of snow got wet yesterday.

Nothing fancy. A Nikon Coolpix that can be found at your local Wal-Mart.
