Oh wow, i didnt even notice that. They did look pretty rocky, so i think thats surprising that they opened that (must have been that 1 inch of pow). But yea, the mornings were a little rough, but once it warmed up, I wasnt complaining at all.

I figured it was lack of snow as well, but I guess it was that the snow down at the bottom was rotten, and with the freeze overnight Wed-Thurs being greater than the prior days, I guess they figured they could open them. Surprising especially since the trails low down even where they make snow have a very low base, maybe only about 6" or less. If they continue to have the warm weather and don't get snow, it might be tough to make the 4/8 closing date based on the trails at the bottom. There is plenty up top though.

Yea, its gonna be a close call for them. As far as snow goes, its unfortunate that their ground there is so incredibly rocky. Of course, thats what makes the mountain so fun to ski. A place like targhee that has mostly a grass ground can open on a much smaller base. They are calling for some snow this week, maybe a foot at the highest elevations, so maybe they'll make it. They really need the snow down low like you said though.
