Killington -- 3/23/07

Resort or Ski Area: K-Mart

Conditions: Spring, GRASS, Corn, Crud, Ice

Trip Report: I went down to the K today to watch some of the mogul comp. Overall I had a great time skiing a different area and watching the comp. However... the skiing left much to be desired.

I was taken aback by the lack of snow at Killington in comparison with Sugarbush. Many many many bare spots, and not that much base anywhere.

And what ever happened to bump skiing at Killington? I spent the entire day trying to find good bumps, only to realize that North Star and Wildfire were the only viable options. Outer Limits was a mess of way wide-spread very loose granular crud bumps that made zipperlining impossible. Superstar was similar. I don't know all of the trail names, but I searched and skied many trails that I was told were supposed to be and used to be good bump runs, only to find that they had been recently groomed and had terrible bumps, if any at all. I found myself not even wanting to turn! On a happier not, Wildfire was quite enjoyable with nicely spaced and well-shaped bumps. North Star was even better, but hadn't been skied quite as much. They were definitely the runs of the day.

So anyway... even though I was disappointed with the lack of base depth and lack of good bumps, I had fun just being there. Still doesn't even begin to compare with Sugarbush IMO, but fun nonetheless.

The bump comp was great, and fun to watch. It was nice to see David Babic (a fellow Sugarbush skier) take third overall.

When you guys got 40", they got half of that - do the math! : )

No bumps - no excuse for that, it's lame. Been like that all season. They have been mowing Outer Limits entirely. Let's hope the new owner's try to return the Beast.

Guess I won't be bothering to head up there. Hunter and Belleayre have better bumps.
