Mount Snow- March 29, 2007

Resort or Ski Area: Mount Snow

Conditions: Spring

Trip Report: With a voucher that was to expire at the end of the month, I took a day off from work and headed to Mt. Snow. A beautiful sunny day with non stop winds that made it feel like mid winter. Conditions were tricky. Soft snow if in the sun, if not it was sometimes hard pack, sometimes ice, sometimes corn. Really all over the board. I skied Mount Snow the Sunday after the St Paddys snowstorm with my son. The conditions were fantastic. I was shocked to go there today and see how much snow they lost. In fact the trail count went from 66 on Wednesday to 34 today. Some of the open trails had pretty good coverage, some were pretty thin. I’ll bet they’ll be closing a few more tomorrow. The only 2 trails open on the North Face were Plummet and Fallen Timbers. I’m glad I went. All in all a great day.

Things actually look better than I thought they would! I can't make it up this weekend but I hope there is still something for the final weekend of the year for them (next weekend). Soft bumps would be nice....

I was thinking the same thing about how things looked. Bascially looked like the last few days didn't do much more than melt away that 3 or so inches of heavy stuff that fell Saturday night. I honestly would have expected that pic of middle exhibition to be a 50/50 grass/snow photo given the temps/precip/fog of the last few days. Looking forward to Saturday ALOT more now after seeing those pics!

I was there today, what was open was in good shape. The picture of Chute tells it all, it never softened up. Seeing the trail count drop overnight was depressing. All ungroomed was closed at least until 1:00 PM. The wind and cold kept things from softening up. Nice sun and no crowds whatsoever.

It will warm up...and this afternoon adn sat afternoon look to be shaping up to be great. The trail count will go back up too...I'm sure most on the NF will open back.

Thanks for all the input and pictures. It looks better than I may have thought also. Looks like the freeze kept the trail count down more than anything. First chair isn't as important this time of year.................Looks like a nice weekend shaping up!

More trails will open, as Marcski said. We have 60-70 trails with enough coverage to ski. Overnight temperatures are hardening natural trails too much for us to say they'll be ready by opening in the morning. So we're reporting low trails counts and opening terrain as the day progresses. Weekend temps aren't looking quite so low so the snow should soften nicely and allow us to get more open.
