Mt Snow 3-31/4-1 2007

Date(s) Skied: March 31st/April 1st 10am-4pm

Resort or Ski Area: Mount Snow,VT

Conditions: Corn main face/NF packed powder LS gran. Sat lots of sun and cool/Sunday sunny am then clouds and warmer.

Trip Report: A nice thing about April skiing is that you don't have to rush to first chair. We clicked in by 10 am on sat and headed over to the NF. All the trails over there needed MUCH more time to soften up so we decided to ski some of the mainface.

Tons of corn found but skiing corn on blue trails drives me crazy so after a few runs we headed over to carinthia to a trail that was under the nitro express that had great bumps. I really sucked at the bumps on sat... After a few runs falling each run and brusing my heal pretty bad I decided to go back over to the NF.

Two hrs later the snow was still real firm with a good amount of ice. It looked like it was just not going to get soft today even with the sun out We continued to ski the NF for the rest of the day and even though it was hardpacked we still had a ton of fun. The run of the day was down challenger...Nice tight trail with lots of bare spots and rocks. Did some damage to my bases and now they need a good amount of P-Tex but it was worth it. Plummet was also fun with the snow a bit soft by 3pm.

SUNDAY: We slept in and got on skies by 10am. It was a bit warmer today and hoped the NF will be a bit more soft. Our first run was down Plummet and YES we found some very carvable snow. I was stoked to hit challenger in some softer snow and as I got over there I found the rope up I thought about ducking it but decided that I would leave that to later. The best snow was on Chute which on sat was closed with frozen bumps. They groomed it over night and it had really nice soft snow on sunday. Since I sucked on the bumps on Sat I figured I would give them a shot so we headed over to Beartrap...WOW they lost a ton of snow in a week. Infact at one point I had to walk over some grass to continue down. The bumps were still not working for me as I was feeling a bit stiff the entire weeked. After a few runs down with my heel hurting we decided to see if challenger was open on the NF.

The rope was still up but the snow was so nice on all the other open trails that it really did not matter. We ended the day at 4pm and had another sweet weeked. Still a good amount of snow on the NF...Sad they are closing in a week.My skiing was not on this weeked but still fun to get out Pics to come later.

Good report. Thanks. I wonder if we bumped into each other on Sunday seems we seemed to be at the North Face in the afternoon. I must have my trail names wrong since I thought I was skiing Challenger on Sunday.

I shouldn't have given up too easily on skiing Beartrap. Oh well.

You're right. Took a look at the trail map and mistook Challenger for Chute (ever notice the typo on Upper Challenger on the new trail map). My goof. Edited my own TR to make the correction. Thanks.

Based on your avatar, I know I saw you yesterday as I was on the NF lift and you were cruising right under. Nice work. I think I've seen you around before also. Bear Trap was sick Sunday, Thank Heavens there weren't many people that knew it was even open. I'll be looking for you next year if you stick with Mt. Snow.................going this w/e?

If you were referring to me here doing nice work under the chair...thanks! Was feeling great under the chair at North Face. Good snow and no one around. We definitely were at the same place at the same time. It was probably the same 30 people going up and down North Face that whole afternoon.

Sorry SM, it was AS I saw, but I'm sure I saw you too and just didn't realize, and you were ripping it up - not many bad skiers over there. After my first runs from 12:00 - 1:00 it was probably 2:30 when I went back over there just to try Jaws out. I only went up twice then then went back to Uncles for a couple. I'll most likely be at Killington next w/e and I'll probably play the weather as to which day. I'd love to go Saturday cause a friend is in the Dead cover band out of Boston playing Saturday afternoon up there for the Sunshine Daydream Fest. But weather will more importantly influence me................
