Jay Peak 4/6/07 - 4/8/07

Date(s) Skied: 4/6 - 4/8

Resort or Ski Area: Jay Peak

Conditions: Friday - Powder, Saturday - Packed Powder, Sunday - Powder

Trip Report: Got to Jay Thursday night and it was obvious that they had gotten serious snow. Took first run down JFK to find 3 -4" fresh powder on top of a groomed packed powder base. We then headed into the woods to find that most of the 18" from Thursday was still untracked. Skied powder all day and by the end of the day it was getting pretty tracked out. Crowds were more then expected for a Friday but no lines.

Saturday: No significant snow overnight but packed powder everywhere. Only sign of ice was on Can Am which had been skied off on Friday. The crowds returned and lines formed about 10:00. Everything was tracked out including all the woods but sking packed powder in April is still great.

Sunday: Got up early for the sunrise service in the tram house at 6:00 AM. Skied down at 7:00 AM to find 3" of powder on Vermonter and lots of untracked in Valhalla. Then it started snowing and snowed all day. The freezer was brutal but for the first time on a powder day on a weekend the tram line actually had no wait. Found untracked powder all day. On some runs when we returned in the afternoon our tracks from the morning had filled back in. Because of the winds it seemed like no one was skiing on that side of the mountain. Runs we found untracked powder in included Beaver Pond, Andreas Paradise, Everglade, North Glade and Dog Patch.

After skiing last weekend and seeing bare spots everywhere with soft wet snow, then raining on Monday I really expected to be skiing powder on ice but was amazed that the new snow completely covered the ice, with a few exceptions, and bare spots were no where to be seen.

Overall one of the best weekends of the season and the best Easter skiing ever.
