I'm glad you guys got to ski MRG at its' finest. Looks pretty much like it did back in early March. A shame they closed on Sunday 4/8......

A shame they closed on Sunday 4/8...necessary though to get the new single installed on time for next season. Talk about Murphy's Law!

It actually skied much better than it did the day I was there in early March. Warmer temps and no wind. Hit Fall Line and Paradise which I missed last time. Great day.

Gonna have to be a mystery, I have not a clue!

HOWEVER.... there is no problem saying that as long as there IS SNOW, folks will be earning turns.

In other words Wildcat is too poor to stay open late like they used to. Also, why would anyone earn turn on Wildcat in the spring when you have Tucks and GoS right across the road?

OOH! OOH! OOH! OOH! Mister Kot-ter!!!! OOH! OOH! OOH!

I think I can answer this one in 2 words: lift service

or: lazy people

or: pass holders

man, do I miss the 'Cat, especially around this time of year...........

The only reason I can think would be avi danger. Which is considerable right now and will be massive after this next storm.

I have nothing but good to say about Wildcat. I skied in feet of powder for $29 a day. The lift is so fast it creates its' own wind. The terrain, which was fully skiable right from the top, is outstanding. And their woods (turns out one of the places I skied last week was the Thompson Brook drainage, thanks NHPH for the map) areas are ALOT of fun. Tight trees, but with quite a bit of stream bed areas too.

The place saved my vacation last week, mostly because it was just plain going off with all the snow, but also because of what I wrote above. Every route on Mt. Washington had very high avi danger. And Sherbie looked nice, but why would I skin for 1-2 runs when I could ski better terrain to total exhaustion at Wildcat?

I hear you, all you "I hike for turns" soul skiers, but let's be really honest right now...isn't that what you would have done? riverc0il didn't head to Tucks, he was at Jay and MRG.

Tucks looked pretty skanky today, lots of snow/ice overhang and a clear hard slab fracture line right across the upper bowl. No picnics up there for sure.
reference http://www.tuckerman.org/avalanche/index.html

So Wildcat offers lift served skiiing for ANOTHER week, until 4/22, weather permitting.

What say you now Austin?? Can you wait til Tucks ripens? Ski on your Wildcat pass?

Its not over by a long shot.

Alright, maybe I misunderstood this but what I got out of it is that people will hike Wildcat as long as there is still snow on the trails, and that Wildcat will close even though it is still skiable. My answer to that was why would anyone hike Wildcat when you can go up to Tucks or GoS.

Also, it is pretty freakin' awesome that you guys are staying open until the 22nd. I'll defiantly be up there a few times as long as it stays cold.
