Slow your roll, bud. I don't think anyone meant anything intentionally The people on this forum are pretty liberal and accepting of other people's likes/dislikes.

I'll use an ipod on the mountain if the mood strikes me, but I keep the music down low- just a habit from mountain biking and also out of courtesy to make sure I hear everything that's going on around me.

Usually classical or something soothing. I also like to rock out to Billy + Elton when I'm feeling funky enough

I ski with a cell phone only so that the kids can reach me but I hate having it attached to me when I ski. I prefer to ski in quiet and rather dislike it very much when I hear others music or cell phone conversations.

The race card - typically played when everything else is lost.

"Most people that listen to rap (note - no capital) are suburban white boys" - where'd that factoid come from? Maybe in your neighborhood - definately not mine.

According to an article entitled "From Sweatshop to Hip Hop" from
Arc.org, Marian Salzman, the founding director of Chiat/Day, said the
following about the demographics of rap music listeners:

"A typical gangsta rap listener is a 14-year-old white boy from the
suburbs. An in-your-face attitude is a marketing hook that screams
authentic." - Marian Salzman
Source: http://www.arc.org/C_Lines/CLArchive/story5_2_02.html

According to Charles Aaron of Spin Magazine, 71% of rap listers are in
fact white:

"Demographically, there's no mystery; the terms majority and minority
are busily playing musical chairs. Between 1970 and 1990, the white
population in the United States dropped almost 10 percent, while the
black population rose slightly, the Hispanic population doubled, and
the population of Asians and other nonwhites tripled. The nonwhite
middle class is now a substantial suburban presence. Despite pressure
to choose "black" or "white," Americans identify themselves more and
more as mixed-race or biracial. Hip-hop, during this period, has
mirrored the country's multicultural shift, becoming a pitched battle
of race and identity. Emerging as the radical (re)vision of pop-rock
that punk never managed, hip-hop is the crucial cultural influence for
Generation X and beyond. The music-industry numbers are undeniable.
According to a SoundScan study, 71 percent of rap music is purchased
by white consumers..."

This 30 yr old CT resident listens to rap. I have since grade 7. The kids in the HS here in Southbury are predominately listening to rap. I coach lax so I hear it around campus regularly.
