Sunday River - December 9th, 2007

Date(s) Skied: 12/9/2007

Resort or Ski Area: Sunday River

Conditions: PP / Frozen

Trip Report: What's the date? January 25th? No wait.. its December 9th! Felt like mid-winter at SR today. Teens and a cool breeze on the chairlifts.

Clicked in about 9AM and hit Lazy River and Sunday Punch off the Barker Quad. Lazy was good - Sunday was starting to get a bit scrapy. We tried a run down American Express - that was pretty icy too... So we headed over to North Peak and hit Dreammaker. Sweet! Easy the best snow of the day. We basically lapped Dreammaker and Ecstasy for rest of the morning. On Dreammaker I hit a jump on the side of the trial, lost my balance, my right ski came off but somehow I skied out of the woods powder on one ski without hitting anything. Kids said I was a big cloud of snow in my 'near fall'.

PM we hit some more North Peak stuff, and then headed back to Barker to do a run down Icepaw, I mean Southpaw. We should have hit that one much earlier. Sheet of ice! Then the last 2 runs on Right Stuff. Great trial. Still had some good snow - lots of variety on this trial - The older boy got some mini-glade action in which made him happy.

Overall great day at SR. Some trials got skiied off by noon, but it was still a great time. Really felt like mid-January out there. Hope this winter weather keeps up!

Anyone hit the trials of Aurora or Jordan? We didn't make it over there but wondering how it was...

I was there yesterday...my experience matches your report. Firm to icy machine-made snow, cool air....but still a good day.

1st time to Sunday River this year. The staff was unbelievably cheery, friendly and eager to say hello...new owners must really be pushing that.
