Sunday River - December 22, 2007

Date(s) Skied: December 22, 2007

Resort or Ski Area: Sunday River

Conditions: Packed Powder

Trip Report: Great day at Sunday River. My wife gets the hero of the day award as she stayed home to get things done for Xmas and let us boys go skiing.

We managed to get to the mountain and get clicked in at 8am at the White Cap lodge to get some fresh corduroy down wildfire. It was awesome all morning. We did laps of Barker and North Peak chairs and had great snow everywhere. Lazy River, Right Stuff was very good. We got into the Last Tango glade and it was awesome coverage. Can't believe it is only December 22nd. I remember last year we didn't even get to Sunday River until MLK and even then it was pretty marginal acreage open. There was a good crowd at the mountain but we maybe waited once for 5 minutes in a lift line.

We bombed back down Tempest for an early lunch and get the foot warmers in. Then we shuttled to Jordan. We decided to Shuttle instead of trying to Ski across, as it was pretty chilly and we like Jordan a lot, and didn't want to be cold by the time we skied over there. Shuttling over is a bit of a pain, but it did allow us to make many laps off Jordan. We had a blast on Lallapalooza, lots of bumps and jumps on skiers left, and hitting the Blind Ambition glade. Rouge Angel was scrapped off up top by this time of day, but the lower part was fun. They were blowing a bunch of snow on Excalibur.

We took Kansas back to the North Peak lodge for a quick break, took a few runs off North Peak, Dreamaker was excellent and Escapade was very good ... found the Enchanted Forest Glade which was great. And then Finished Off with a Sunday Punch, Wildfire to Road Runner and coasted to the finish.

Maybe someone can chime in on what it was like off of Oz, Aurora and White Cap.

I have used up my Sunday River SkiMaine passbook / Winterkids passes so off to other Maine Mountains for the rest of the year. Sunday River Rules in giving great early season conditions!

Oops - posted the same time as Loafer89's trip report. They skied some different terrain so I think we both hit just about everything!

Thanks, nice report. Between yours and Loafer89's report I'll have to get my lazy butt out of bed tomorrow and make it up there.
