Sugarloaf - 12/28/2007 - w/ Pics

Conditions: PP / Some Frozen

Trip Report: Good day at the loaf - but busy! All the parking lots were full and they were parking on the road. We managed to arrive around 8:20AM and parked in Lot E... but later arrivals weren't so lucky. From 9:15 - 11:30 the superquad was nuts. 25 minute waits. Looks like the single line moved faster but it was a haul. After 11:30 things calmed down a bit to a < 10 minute wait. Double Runner to Spillway chairs was the best way to the top in the AM anyway.

On to the skiing. It was quite good. They picked up a couple of inches overnight which actually helped freshen things up considerably. The morning we hit Kings Landing and that was already getting icy. We got a tote road run in which was great. The glade off tote was actually quite good. Still good coverage. Upper Scoot was OK, but slick. Lower scoot had some nice snow.

After lunch more tote road to Candyside. Candyside had very good coverage and was a lot of fun. Timberline from Spillway was very good. The timberline chair never got off wind hold all day. We got a couple of runs of whiffletree - more gentle tree runs but that was a bit more bare in the coverage. We finished off with a couple of runs of double-runner west. Hit Lower Narrow Gauge first - easily the best snow of the day. They raced on it most of the day and opened it up in the PM. Super soft turns. A run down lower competition hill was pretty good but had a few death cookies here and there... and we finished off with a top to bottom run off the Superquad down our fav - tote road.

We never made it over to the King Pine chair. Maybe someone can chime in who made it over there. Looks like they were making most of the snow in that area.

So all in all, despite the morning lift craziness the afternoon ruled and we had a very good time. They are recovering pretty well from the rain. The steeps get skied off pretty quick, but it could be a lot worse!

nice write up. sounds like just about anywhere people skied today, it was crowded.

its awesome you guys all ski together. I'm really trying to get my wife back into it so when my daughters start, i can have a skiing gang. good stuff.

I like the picture of the kid in the last picture whose like me and goes by the all skis are rock skis strategy..it looks like you guys had a blast..nice stoke..

Yeah 2Knees - usually it is me and the boyz romping around the house or whatever with my wife rolling her eyes. But skiing is something all 4 of us can do at relatively the same ability level - so we all get to have a blast as a family. Affordable? No. Fun? Yes!

King pine was sketchy, lots of ice and crappy snowmaking... no crowds though! Spillway didn't have much of a line all day. the woods still have good cover but it resembles a glacier. It won't take much for everything to open up again.

I'm really trying to get my wife back into it so when my daughters start, i can have a skiing gang. good stuff.
