Pats Peak Hurricane Bumps assults old snowboarder

My first adult clinic session at Pats Peak today. I am the only in my class. I told my instructor I wanted to learn to ride the bumps on Hurricane. Good thing the snow was soft today as I took some falls I haven't taken in a long time. I did several air 360's leaving an impressive indentations in the soft snow using my back. After several of these I told the instructor I wanted to learn to ride in the bumps not do park tricks. I am so sore right now. He did say I did hit a "few" correctly. The "show" must have been entertaining as seen from the lift. Then he "forced" me to ride switch which I haven't done in a long time which resulted in more close examination of snow crystalline structure. But I asked for it. I will be back at it next week. I need to be ready for Sugarbush.

The bumps on Hurricane at Pat's, from when I saw them on Monday, are probably not the best to learn on. Rather irregular patterns with some deeper troughs on a somewhat steep pitch, poor lines for the most part. Not sure how Ragged is looking, but Ragged is in that same area at a similar price. You might want to give them a call and see how their bumps are doing with the thaw as they have a few trails that are perfect pitch for learning bumps (Birches and Sweepstakes are the trails you would be interested in snow conditions beta if you call).

At Pats, there's an area on lower FIS on skier's right that had a small bump field last season. I thought I saw some bumps there last Saturday but the thaw may have affected them.

I tried them out last season and they were real nice for learning...the pitch was lower and you could easily bail out if you needed/wanted to.

Hey, it could be worse. Like, later on this month, when one of your pesky boards will be working in cahoots WITH the hill to assault my rear end as I try to learn to snowboard.

And yes, I DID buy the Bumsaver.

So are you going to take a lesson or just give it a go on your own? Where at ..Pats? If there, ask for Ruben or Papa Joe if your trying the board on the weekend. Now if you give me the time and place I can bring some popcorn and find a good place to watch...

Either Crotched or Pats, one of the two. I'm leaning twards Crotched because I like the idea of learning on Super Nova. Pat's can be a blast, but their Green Terrain does tend to have a whole lot of 'strait' to it, and I'd much rather be forced to pay attention. That and Pat's bunny hill is right next to the lifts, and well.... It'd be like learning bumps on Hurricane at Pat... Oh, wait..

It'll more then likely be the Sat the 29th.

I sure do agree with your observation about the bumps on Hurricane. Next lesson I will have to convince the instructor not to take me on something so aggressive. I checked Ragged trail report and the trail count is way down, no blacks open. It appears the warm spell is getting to them.
