| Date(s) Skied: January 20th, 2008 Resort or Ski Area: Black Mountain Ski Area of NH. Conditions: Packed Powder Liftlines: No liftlines. At most, you would have a couplke of people in front of you, but most of the time you could just ski right onto the chair. Crowds: No crowds on the trails. They were pretty empty. ![]() Trip Report: Black Mountain truly is a place with Classic New England Style trails. The only two "really wide" trails are Jackson Standard and Maple Slalom. Both of which are the two main trails one can see from the road. Next, I would like to say it seems like Black is putting in a much better effort this year than previous years. They had really good coverage, and they were making more snow than I have ever seen them make. If anyone has seen the Men at Black advertisement (haha Now on to everyone's favorite part of the post, the pictures... ![]() Jackson Standard: ![]() Guns running all the way up Maple Slalom: ![]() Untracked snow awaits... yet again!: ![]() A lot of time must have went into making these lift towers, each piece bolted together: ![]() Upper Galloping Goose:

| I was there in December, after 12" dump. (I saw fewer people than you.) I have a great affection for the area, even so young into our relationship.... anyways, Jackson Standard was in bad shape in December, they were pumping snow whales big time. It looks gorgeous now. Maple Slalom must have really deteriorated - I was skiing 1-2 FEET powder in December. Looks like hell now. All that aside, it's a wonderful place for people of all abilities. What I like most about these low-attended area is the lack of any sort of stress - great for beginners to not feel threatened or pressured and great for others knowing you can pretty much ski where ever you please. Any chance you looked at the woods or glades? |

Woods were a bit thin, but the two blue squar ones skiers left were open; and in fine condition. The others were all closed.
