Powder Mountain 2/4/08

I was on my way to LCC this morning when AM 540 reported that there would be a delay opening the canyon road due to Avi control work. Traffic was backed up in both directions on Wasatch Blvd for a mile. So, I decided to take a ride up to Powder Mountan and pick up my "Powder Card." Since I have never been there I had no idea what to expect. I now know why they call it "POWDER MOUNTAIN." Overnight they had had 31" and that was added to the 8" of the night before. In fact, this week they have had 95". Except for the traverse roads between the lift bases, I was in powder varying from my knees to my hips. I quickly learned not to get too far from reasonably steep terrain. Digging your skis out from under two feet or more of fluff can be a challenge. The weather varied from bright sun to fast moving low clouds that kept dumping snow during the day. By the time I headed back to my car there was enough snow in the parking lot to simply ski/skate from the edge of a trail all the way to the car. Powder is a beautiful place, although all the infrastructure (lodges, lifts) could use some serious updating. On the other hand, who cares? They have definitely got the goods!

Did you do the snow cat? $8 a ride you can't go wrong.

yeah but for $8 you get 700 acres of untouched fluff! Also, if you haven't done it, Powder Country is pretty good,, inbound back country skiing, can't wait! Either way, glad you had a good time, there's a reason they call it powder.

Powder Country is great..

I wouldnt pay for the cat until every thing else is tracked up and that takes a while at PM

if they still run the bus, one of the best runs is down to the road from the condo parking. an added feature of the upside down layout. down to the road from the other side is great too, if you do the short hike from the lift.

31" ? i'm jealous. for big dumps Utah's hard to beat.

Thought about what I said afterwards and I have to agree. Plent of pow to be had.

Anyone know about the lift they upgraded, a story I read says you can now access almost all the terrain.
