| It doesn't get much better than this. Fresh snow, bluebird skies, and little wind combined with temps near 20 created a brochure day. http://tinyurl.com/2fg83f Here's the summary in pictures: Awesome views dominated the ridgeline...stuff is really starting to fill in now. Rock Garden was getting hit hard, which was fun to watch. http://tinyurl.com/ysb2f2 We hit Riverbed, which was basically a natural terrain park. There's a ton of snow on the mountain (many feet) and its about as filled in as it gets. http://tinyurl.com/yr3cmq http://tinyurl.com/ys5g54 High entrance of Chapel Woods was a nice variation to the same ol' Chapel traverse. The woods below were packed out, but oh so soft. http://tinyurl.com/22hnlq Then I found some low angle, low elevation line that dumped me into the parking lot...but it was more interesting than the usual run-out. http://tinyurl.com/yucebn Clouds moved in and stuck around the ridgeline from mid-afternoon on... http://tinyurl.com/yub9og Bruce was last. We left a car at the itdoesn'tMatterhorn... http://tinyurl.com/2bwzee ...and headed down as the shadows grew. http://tinyurl.com/2bneho http://tinyurl.com/yql3mz It was a very nice, enjoyable run of cruising through some buried New England hardwoods. The air was calm and areas of late afternoon sun almost gave a hint of spring...the snowpack is definitely getting up there with hopefully two full months of additional accumulations. http://tinyurl.com/2fcngn http://tinyurl.com/2gyjlw And finally, to give an example of the snow depth at around 1,000ft or a little above...down by the Matterhorn. This is a standard wood fence...where you can see the fence is under some thick canopy while out in the open, the fence is buried. http://tinyurl.com/yuaclh A solid 3 feet of snow pack here...the fence only looks like a berm. http://tinyurl.com/2xoeqp I got back to my car at 4:40 to an empty resort...we hung out with the dogs in the parking lot for a little then headed home. We're gaining a little bit of afternoon daylight now which is nice. It's been a pretty good stretch of days here lately and I can't wait for Friday ski club tomorrow. Here's an out-the-window shot on the drive home... http://tinyurl.com/25l9pt -Scott |
