Trip Report:

I took a trip up to Wachusett today for about 4 hours. Here's the best way to describe it: Spring in January. There was a lot of slush, dirt, and mashed potato snow. It was a really good workout and actually quite fun, but I want winter in winter and spring and spring. This year looks like it may be vice-versa.

Conifer: Worst trail for me today. Beginners swarming it and lots of slush and bare spots. I only went down it twice. I'll try to avoid it in the next couple of months and stick to 10th and Smith off the summit.

10th: Many jumps in many places on the trail. Skiied very well and while I wouldn't exactly call it good period, it was still good for the weather.

Smith: A lot better than last week, but there was a lot of corn on the steep. There also was a lot of air to be had on the lower half. A few small ice patches late, but nothing bad.

Piece of Cake: Many small jumps along side it, but not worth taking that SLOW lift ride to. If they open some real jumps, I'll bother with it then.

Look Mom: Normal all the way to where the rails are. There, there are many different types of rails and some places for air (no jumps, but natural lips).

Challenger: More mashed potatoes than I've eaten in my life, but a good trail. I think this one is tied with Hitchcock for my favorite intermediate trail at Wa, but Hitchcock isn't open yet.

Overall, not a bad night. There were a lot of injuries on the hill, bit that was to be expected with all of the schools that go on Tuesdays. The conditions weren't any good for beginners either. The skiing was good, but they need snow. Bad. I'll be up with my school Friday Night.

I'm supposed to go with my school on Thursday night. Hopefully things get better by then! It's supposed to turn colder and they are calling for some snow...but they say it will be followed by *$&# (dirty word, I can't say it!). I sure as heck hope not.

I asked for SNOW for Christmas, didn't get it. I asked for snow for my birthday (today), haven't gotten it yet, but I'll give the snow gods a couple more days to deliver it.
