Ski Sundown - 2/24/08 (night)

Date(s) Skied: Sunday, 2/24/2008, 7:35 - 10:10 pm

Resort or Ski Area: Ski Sundown, CT

Conditions: Firm bumps, some ice. Temps in the 20's, clear and calm.

Trip Report: A quick hitter tonight. Took 4 or 5 runs and then hooked up with 2knees. The bumps are much firmer obviously than they were on Friday. The upper section on Nor'easter has some broad glare ice patches here and there. Very easy to spin out up there. The nice lines as the trail turns down into Temptor are intact. The flats on Temptor is very "grabby" and I felt unstable skiing through there. Lower Temptor still has some great lines, but there was a string of three bumps towards the bottom of the steep pitch on the best line that were brutal; broad slick patches leading into wall-like bumps. Pat and I took some time on a few runs to knock the ends off the bumps and reshape them a bit. They did improve, but the run really needs a warm sunny day to get it primed up for full-on thrashing.

I skied mellow tonight. Still felt tired from Friday, especially the first few runs. Pat was in typical fast form. He definitely will have no issues in the comp from a speed standpoint. One thing I noticed was the Mogul sign was now down by the Temptor/N'E merge and there was a sign hung on the tree where the Temptor sign is that read something to the effect of "Advanced skills required beyond this point." Hey...that's a good idea...

Glad you guys made it out. Sorry to hear you got hurt Pat! Sounds like it was a bit sketchy in parts. I kinda wish I was out there with you guys instead of working, but I think at that point I would have preferred to be home in bed after a loooong weekend.

Hope you're feeling better today. Yeah, when you hit that bump, it sounded like a shotgun blast. Then I saw you continue skiing so I didn't pay much attention after that. It was only when I saw the 3/4 yard sale that I realized that ski popped off.
