Cranmore 2008-03-09

Date(s) Skied: 2008-03-09

Resort or Ski Area: Cranmore

Conditions: Sunny, windy, flags out straight, crunchy

Trip Report: Cranmore is one of those places we like to ski every year. Never our first choice if we are going skiing, but we like to do it once every year or so. Since we visited the Balsams yesterday, we thought we could do Cranmore today.

How this place was not a sheet of ice, I'll never know. It poured last night. As we drove by, we saw the lifts running, and skiiers coming down. So in we pulled. We were shocked to see it was only crunchy, and not glare ice. We went up the super quad and came right down under it. Next couple of runs were over the back side, because no one esle was there. Then we went to Kandahar, Arlberg, Skimeister and Bandit, all on the skiier's right. This place was seldom traveled and we often skiied alone. It was a little crunchy, but easily handled. Then we headed over to skiier's left and skiied that area for a bit. Schneider and Koessler were more fun than we expected. For the morning after a heavy downpour this place was way more fun than expected. Not to say that we wouldn't have preferred packed powder.

About 1:30, we could hear our quads starting to scream a bit, and we had no food with us. We had wanted to visit a chowder house in town for some time, and we had skiied everything we wanted to, so off to the chowder house. All in all, we were very happy with our weekend of skiing, first the Balsams, then Cranmore. Great weekend!!! Despite the rain!

Yep, was really surprised that we actually got to ski there today. Was feeling really iffy coming back from the Balsams with the pouring rain from the night before and the strong winds today. Again was really happy to be skiing again. What a difference a day makes, yesterday soft snow, today cruchy, hard pack.....

I had a great weekend, even if we didn't ski the whole day both days, hey, after not skiing the whole month of January and getting over my injury, I'll take it!
