I have 20 years of grass roots experience in foodservice busser-waiter-cook-executive chef. I can honestly feel your pain on the low-balling cheapskates but that is equaled out by the fact that you probably had one of the better gigs in Jackson. That's part of being a server, you have to deal with some real dicks. Overall I'm sure you made more than the lead line guy who has devoted many years and probably went through culinary school-maybe I'm wrong. It took me a lot of years as a server/chef to let the resentment go. The ones that can't let it go either:
A. Smoke copious amounts of weed and drink most nights to oblivion.
B. hate 50% of the customers who come through the door
I know working in resorts is not your ultimate career path but as long as you do consider yourself extremely lucky to be averaging anything over 12/14$ per hour and living in paradise. I do wish less people were douchebags when they eat out. |
