Kirkwood/Heavenly March 18th-21st.

Finally got around to posting this....

The 18th, 19th, and 21st were all perfect, 50F, and sunny. 20th reminded me of skiing back here...wind holds and hardpack.

We skied Heavenly the 18th and 20th. Stuck mostly to the CA side, everything was quite nice and plenty of snow. The day I wanted to hit Mott/Killebrew was incredibly windy, so I was disappointed that I didn't get to get there.

Kirkwood the 19th and 21st, was far better though. Skied Sunrise both mornings, had lunch at the grill over there. "The Wall" was a good challenge, although it was groomed. Sentinel Bowl was probably my favorite area, great terrain there, and Zachary/everything else off the Cornice lift was nice too. Also, it was EMPTY....longest liftline was 10 seconds, and we parked about 30ft from the lodge area.

Anyway, here's a few pics.

Looking up at "The Wall", and part of Wagon Wheel Bowl.

Top of the Sunrise lift-Kirkwood.

Whatever is to your right off the Sunrise lift at Kirkwood.

And finally, my favorite pic...sunset on the lake.

I gotta second that-Mott's (and the face) are the two signature areas of Heavenly-and there the best way to ditch the masses-changes the whole heavenly experience.

Hey-the wall wasn't completely groomed-only right next to the lift! The Cornice Chair (lift #6) at Kirkwood serves up some of the best terrain from one lift anywhere.

Can't beat warn California sunshine skiing!

I know, but the day when NV, Tamarack, North Bowl, and the Gondola are on wind hold, and Dipper and Comet are running half-speed, didn't inspire enough confidence in me to go try out a possibly difficult area without knowing what winds do over there.

I did hit the face, which was very nice for a while on the first day. The Sky and Canyon chairs were very crowded though, which is why I didn't spend that much time over there.

True, and I loved the Cornice lift as well....I could just go in any direction and find great terrain. I'd say 80% of my skiing in the afternoons was on that. (Too solid in the mornings).

Completely agree. So nice to just sit in a lounge chair and relax in the sun, listening to some mellow rock at lunch, and it was perfect weather on the slopes as well...softened everything up, but never got slushy.
