It was a moose. I saw it on saturday afternoon, which ended up being a bluebird warm sunny day. We opted not to ski today and went bowling with the little ones. Seems like we made the right choice. This time of year, its all about the weather. The snow will come if the weather is there.

Oh, the moose was totally cool. Seemed like it was a young male. 1st time down, he was about 30 yards off to the side on a closed trail. 2nd time, about 10 yards on the same closed trail. Pretty cool.

Seeing the moose would have been cool. The most exciting wildlife I've seen on the slopes was a chipmunk. Woohoo.

2knees - You are absolutely right. Skiing by myself has become a problem for me. It leaves me the luxury of too much time to think. And thinking while skiing is bad for me. I need a clear head, and somebody to keep up with.

We all have bad days, right? I'll be back to Snow next season to redeem myself.

I've had few really short days this year due to boot issues too; it sucks, I know. My rule of thumb is at least as many hours on the slopes as in the car, but I think I've done that at Killington once out of 6-7 times this year after getting my new boots (Sundown was a little easier to reach that mark with.)

It's too bad you couldn't be happy with them before going out west, but better to be able to ski in big boots than to be forced to the sidelines with the new ones.

Wow, you were fighting the trifecta!
Boots that aren't dialed in, with skis that are new(and possibly mounted too far back), and unstable spring conditions. The Cherry on that particular Sunday is that you were alone and probably THINKING too much!!!

Girl, if your feet ain't happy, ain't none of you gonna be happy

We've all had Weird Funk Days(WFD). In fact, I can usually count on one out of 4 being a tad of a WFD.

It's tough to work through funks sometimes. It sounds like you gave it a solid effort skiing for a few hours. Sounds like that 3 hours in the car might have been better spent heading up to Concord, NH to see Jeff Bokum. I've been to Alpine Haus and those guys definitely get the boot fitting thing, but they're just not in Jeff's league, IMHO. You need to get the boot issue figured out. Nothing will go right if you don't.

Might have been a crappy experience from the skiing perspective, but I'm sure you enjoyed the down time and the excitement on the ride up was probably pretty enjoyable. Focus on the good stuff.

Life's too short for warm up runs.

A quick (and cheap) potential fix: try to tighten up the fit on the old boots with a flat foam insole placed beneath the liner, i.e., above the zeppa (a/k/a boot board) ( http://www.skinet.com/article.jsp?ID=1000038221 ). You can get a Dr. Scholl's or store brand flat foam insole at CVS or Duane Reed for $5 or so -- something like this: http://www.drscholls.com/product.aspx?prodid=64. Remove the boot liner and whatever footbed you're using -- place the new flat foam insole on the boot board after trimming to fit if needed -- replace the liner and footbed - and you've got a smaller boot!

YMMV but I found this worked pretty well for a couple of days on boot that were a size too big and it was worth $5 to find out.

What I need is some time where I can fine tune and test right away. It's just the wrong time in the season to be dialing in boots. Jeff would be great, but it's also cost-prohibitive to be driving 2 states and 4 hrs away to try to have boots adjusted. We'll see what these guys can do next season and go from there. If they can't get it right, then maybe we'll have to make a weekend of it up in NH.

The alone time was nice, if nothing else.

Severine, I've got some of the material left from my husband's boot fitting, which we used to tighten up his heels in his new boots. I'll make sure to pack it for the Abasin Trip. We'll fix you up.
