Camera Jay Peak - April 16

Date(s) Skied: Wednesday, April 16 (Yup, we played hooky.)

Resort or Ski Area: Jay Peak, Vt.

Conditions: Super springy conditions with great snow coverage.

Trip Report: This week the weather is unbelievably nice in northern Vermont, so five of us hit Jay Peak. I kept thinking I was in Colorado because it was so sunny and warm and the coverage was still good.

They aren't running all their lifts midweek, but we hit the tram and the Jet triple for some great runs. You had to find runs that weren't flat and sunny, however, because the sticky snow grabbed at your skis. We found less of that over on Stateside, where the runs don't seem to bake in the sun as much. Great corn snow on Haynes and The Jet. Awesome soft bumps all the way down U.N.

On the top of the mountain, the views were great on Vermonter and Northway. It's supposed to stay sunny and get warmer as we head into the weekend. Jay says they'll stay open until April 27, but they'll close for a few midweek days next week.

Really good coverage for this late in the season. Get out there if you can!

More photos on my ski blog. I recommend stopping at Devlyn's Creamee Stand in Sheldon, Vt., after hitting Jay. Ample portions of soft-serve ice cream to be had!
