Then call me dumb if you want.I have 35 employess and when I hire summer help I know that the start date might not be an exact day.I deal with it.To push the season ONE more day and then start ranting how unfair it is my definition of dumb.

I Most ski resort jobs suck,. but noone likes to be jerked around, especially at the end of the season, when it can cost you a job for the summer.

Most season pass holders are ski bums or retirees, at least that I saw at Jackson Thats just my observation, not based on stats (Id love to see some real data). As such, they might frequent the restaurant more often, but often order cheap stuff or just drinks, then expect a deal because they are "pass holders", and tend to not tip as well. I dealt with it everyday in Jackson. So unless you've been in my position and experienced something different, trying to argue otherwise is pretty dumb if you ask me.

.
AR...one season working at some food place in Teton Village does not put you in the position to analyze and make generalizations about the behavior of season pass holders. Sure, when working at ANY resort your going to confront rude people. Perhaps they are just rude people having nothing to do with being a sp holder.

Most sp holders are not ski bums or retirees. Ski resorts close in April/May, summer jobs do not start until late May/June. Your comment that working the extra day "will cost you a job for the summer" is ludicrious.

Many people have been in your position, including myself(17 years working at JH, 9 years for the resort, 7 years at the Bush) most of the employees I know do not think their ski resort jobs suck.

Perhaps these alleged sp holders who were mostly ski bums(btw, you can't be a ski bum if you have a sp, it's a rule) and retirees didn't tip you very well was the result of your service and attitude towards them.

Lastly, you are welcome to disagree with me and you would not be dumb in doing so, calling people who disagree with you as dumb shows a real lack of maturity.

I bet you had an incredible experience this past winter, especially with the epic snow out there this year. Post what you know, not what you don't. peace

Lots of generalizations and accusations in there SRO. I never said it would cost you a job, but it very well could if an employer wanted to be a dick about it. And just because I dont have 30 years experience doesnt mean I dont know how it works. Accusing me of poor service as the reason for lacking tips is bullshit. Everyone in my restuarant knew the deal, it happened everyday. You bend over backwards to please a customer, then they always asked for a deal, didnt tip as well as non-season pass holders. It happened everyday in Jackson, to every server I worked with. So unless we were all retarded and for some reason happened to be shitty just to season pass holders I stand by my statements. In typical AZ fashion everyone climbs on the negatives I pointed out as if its going to ruin the industry. I never said that the loaf being open an extra day was a bad thing. BobR I believe pointed out that the employees didnt seem stoked to be open an extra day, I was providing insight as to why. Deal with it. This board does not handle criticism well at all. Also I never accused people who disagreed with me as being dumb, I said it was dumb for people to judge my statements as right or wrong, with no experience of being on the other side, as being dumb. Big difference. It would be like me debating physics with a NASA engineer, and calling him wrong, when I have zero experience from the other side. Thats a dumb argument to get into and try and make statements as fact, when in reality I would have no idea what I was talking about. Get it?

I stated that the crew was smiling and happy. My point was some of the guys were just moving to the golf porgram after the lifts shut down.

I don't agree with your points AR. I just don't want to debate them. You can have your opinion.
That is fine.

SRO has alot of experieince in this area. I have a decent amount also, but its been a while since I have been in the loop. I don't have enough current info to comment..

I have 20 years of grass roots experience in foodservice busser-waiter-cook-executive chef. I can honestly feel your pain on the low-balling cheapskates but that is equaled out by the fact that you probably had one of the better gigs in Jackson. That's part of being a server, you have to deal with some real dicks. Overall I'm sure you made more than the lead line guy who has devoted many years and probably went through culinary school-maybe I'm wrong. It took me a lot of years as a server/chef to let the resentment go. The ones that can't let it go either:

A. Smoke copious amounts of weed and drink most nights to oblivion.
B. hate 50% of the customers who come through the door

I know working in resorts is not your ultimate career path but as long as you do consider yourself extremely lucky to be averaging anything over 12/14$ per hour and living in paradise. I do wish less people were douchebags when they eat out.
