Social Groups

I just discovered this social group thing on this board, thanks Beano. I like it, but it's a shame that it's not more evident. Anyway, started a new group and figured I'd put it out there for anyone that may be interested. It's called NYC Metro Area hikers.

Right, I don't see a clickable entry anywhere on the site. Anyway, I hike the Hudson Highlands pretty often, and am also interested in the ruins in the area like the Cornish estate north of Cold Spring. I'll be checking in.

Regards, Mapnut

Yeah, discovered Breakneck Ridge and the Cornish Estate last year. Great hike and it's only like 50 miles from NYC

Here's a site specifically about ruins: www.hudsonvalleyruins.org It's where I first heard about the Cornish estate - I had walked right past the mansion ruins before without knowing they were there. Also worth looking for in Cold Spring is the West Point foundry.

I do paintings of the ruins, and put some in the album.

I see the clickable entry is under "Quick Links" on the Forum Home page.

I'll have to check that link out when I get a chance, sounds interesting.

Yeah I see that, but unless you know to look for it, it's hard to detect. Would be nice if it was a menu item on it 's own

I'm still trying to figure out what the true value of the social groups will be. In any event, at this point, I do not believe they warrant their own link on the main nav bar.

I can understand that. It's a tough choice between getting the most functionality with the least bit of clutter. For now the social groups is a newly discovered function for me that seems to be useful, however, there's no predicting if people will use it.

One thing that may make them more successful is notifications of new posts in your group. Is this doable?

I'm sure this will be a part of future vBulletin releases. It seems like a common request. I expect that we'll see additional social group enhancements too so they may become a larger component in the future. I would like to have the capability to PM all members of the group for example. Right now they just seem like mini-forums with limited functionality.
