Blue Mt

I had a training appointment today at a house and when I pulled up they had Blue mt stickers on there cars. Now the lady was old so I figured she was not into skiing, When I asked who skies at blue she said well I own it Wait this is the eastern end of LI ?? I said you do? She said yep my husband opened it but passed away last year.. so now I own it. Turns out this is her summer house out here and the road is named after the family... Tuts lane.

She went on to say that her husband bought the top of the mountain many years ago but an old lady owned the bottom and would not sell. He waited until she past and then bought the bottom from the family. He built roads for a living and wanted to keep his workers busy during the winter so he decided to build a ski area. Now her daughter runs it for her.

I tried to talk her into buying Bald Hill on LI and re-open for skiing again...She said give my daughter a call, you never know. Thought it was a cool story.

Bald Hill would be sweet. I don't think the damn weather would cooperate though.

I've never skied in the Poconos. But I have and do mountain bike at Blue Mountain Reservation (http://www.wmba.org/WMBAPosters/Blue_Mtn_big.jpg) in Peekskill all the time. I thought this was another mtn biking thread.

It must be Ray Tuthills wife..the founder of Blue mountain who passed away last summer. Now the daugter pretty much runs the place and she's much cheaper than her father was with respect to snowmaking, grooming and being open on days when it's pouring rain and it's just me in the house..anyway still pretty cool...I owe alot to Blue mountain..
