Do you think he could take up snowboarding? Does it only get aggravated by the ski boots or is the damage done and any tight footwear is a problem?

WD, I'm sending good vibes to your son and the ones who love him. I sense he probably has your spirit and will find a positive way around this.
At least it sounds like he is in excellent physical health otherwise, which only helps.

I am POSITIVE this will only turn out for the best... skiing is big, but only part of life, and that he has plenty of left.

Good vibes...

Unfortunately the snowboard boots are NOT an option ---------------------so we are exploring other alternatives for winter fun with him . Perhaps Toboganning maybe even XC skiing ( he used to do that before as a training alternative) and XC boots are softer and less restrictive . Another adrenelin junky hobby could be Ice Boat racing here on the ST. Lawrence River . I have several other ski buddies my age who are into that -- it's crazy fast !!!!

You're a GOOD man CB .Thanks for your KIND words

He's is a great guy (much better in many ways than his old man) LOVES DOWNHILL with a fierce passion and yes with his intelligence and the general quality of his life and having strong family ties will ADAPT and DEAL with the situation in time

Being a super track athlete it might have been at one time ! But hey never though of skeleton racing or luge--there's a serious adrenilin rush.

With Jimmy Shea former Olympic gold medalist from LP who has several family members here in Oburg --some of whom we are friends with H"MMMMM- never thought of it till you mentioned bobsled
