I would imagine that a few folks here will watch some of the olympics. I enjoy the swimming and track and field events because I competed in those sports as a youngster. Here is a great story to cheer for all those 40 somethings that think we're still in our
20's. And no steroids

Leading scorer of the US women's soccer team is out due to broken leg from a collision with a brazilian player. That sux.

Women's V-ball aside, the winter Olympics are way steezier. WC bumps in HD is truly radical.

I'm looking forward to the fencing events (I'm a competitive fencer)... The US has a VERY strong chance to medal in the Women's Sabre (both Individual and Team) events, a sweep is not out of the question in the individual event, but the common thought is that Tan Xue (Chinese) and/or Elena Netchaeva / Sophia Velikaia (Russian) have a shot of sneaking in there...

World ranks coming in to the games:
1. Sada Jacobson (USA) - Athens Bronze medalist
2. Rebecca Ward (USA)
3. Tan Xue (CHN) - Athens Silver medalist
4. Elena Netchaeva (RUS)
5. Mariel Zagunis (USA) - Athens Gold medalist
6. Sophia Velikaia (RUS)

The US Men's Sabre team of Keeth Smart, Tim Morehouse, and Jason Rodgers (alt. James Williams) has an outside shot of sneaking into the medals, but they have a TOUGH draw in Hungary for their first match.

US Men's Epee fencer Seth Kelsey is currently ranked 5th in the world, so has a realistic shot of medaling, however, Epee is the most unpredictable weapon, upsets are common, and the field is DEEP. The US Failed to qualify a Men's Epee team for the games.

US Men's Foil fencer Gerek Meinhardt is the youngest US Fencer to ever qualify for the games (17), and I believe the youngest fencer in the MF competition. This kid is only getting better. He's amazingly good now, but should be even BETTER in 2012.

US Women's Foil fencers Emily Cross, Erinn Smart, Hanna Thompson and alternate Doris Willette are a strong talented team, and have all beaten the top stars... they could put together an amazing run if they're all on in the Team event... The individual event is a tough deep field and it will be difficult for them to climb the podium (but not out of the question).

US Women's Epee is represented by Kelly Hurley... very talented fencer who excelled in the Junior ranks. I believe she is the only US Fencer in the Olympics who was a full time college student this year (Notre Dame), the others in college took the year off to train for the games, hardworking and athletic, she faces a tough field but we'll see what she can do.

Aren't you involved with the team? I thought you might be going along.

I do a lot of work for the association (run tournaments, behind the scenes work, etc), but I'm not at the level where they'll send me... maybe some day... If I can stomach the political bull shit for that long.
