| Quickie Chamonix Update - 3/5/05 The old saying for skiing in North America is that if it's hell on the highway it's going to be heaven on the hill. Well... 36 very trying hours after leaving the house we arrived at our hotel in Chamonix. On the up side, our connecting flight was delayed because of snow, and it snowed in the mountains all night and all day today. Visibility was very poor today so we opted to ski at the below-treeline area in Les Houches. Lots (LOTS!) of good open steep trees here and soft snow off-piste on the Versant St. Gervais. Almost no one skiing that side either. The main faces were quite busy, and the trails were scraped down to good-old New England loud powder. Utterly unedgable. Good thing we only skied it once to get back down at the end of the day. ![]() ![]()
