Trip Report: We started this trip by waking up a half hour late. So I am out doing the driveway and she is loading the car. My 4WD truck is in the shop with at least a head gasket, probably more, another story... Anyways, the roads are slushy and we are really wishing I had my truck. We made good time, getting to the aRiver just a bit after 8 AM. The lot guys are way down on the access road and pointing to the side to us, a half mile from Barker lodge! Every one is here, as are the Junior olympics.

Skiing is great, but everything bumps up early. We are all working it, and having a blast. Around 11, we head to the lodge and devour a tray of lasagna. There are 6 of us total. After lunch, we break up into pairs and spread out across the mountain. A little later, and we are all separated, not meeting up at the chosen time and places.

So I take on a couple of blacks and blues that are all bumped up. I am shooting everyhting, trying to establish a good rythim, and watching others do it. I see they are scrubbing speed every time they hit a bump. I am imitating them and am able to link some bumps. I have purposly chosen nice wide trails. I am able to link some together, then I have to turn out. Turning out is interesting as everything is bumps, there are no smooth areas. After several runs, and ripping off each ski, individually on separate occasions, my legs are a bit rubbery and I've had enough. (Did I really say that?)

I went to the lodge and got changed up and got the car and parked it closer to the lodge and started loading up. After awhile, everyone gongregates back and we head home, having earned a good nights sleep.

did they really get 2 ft of snow like the website claimed???

2 feet of snow? Normally, I like to quote what they say and what there really is, but didn't do it this time. From what I heard from some folks who were there Saturday, it was pretty windy, blowing everything into the woods. We got there Sunday AM, and the snow was plenty deep. At Rogue Angel, our party was getting beat up with all those deep moguls. Late in the day, I was skiing moguls that were midthigh and waist high.

My assessment: I'd say it was fair to say that they got at least 20 inches.

What is interesting is that the beginner area near South Lodge was packed down and have 3 inches or so of loose snow on it. I think they do a great job of providing a great place to learn there. And since it was a learning area, the area was not skiied hard enough to bump it up.

thats wierd there was wind, i was at sugarloaf saterday and it wasnt windy at all, sugarloaf ussually is the windest mountain around
