Loon Mountain - 3/16/2005

Date(s) Skied: Wednesday, March 16, 2005. 9 AM - 1 PM

Resort or Ski Area: Loon Mountain, Lincoln, New Hampshire

Conditions: Packed powder, moguls. Cloudy with snow showers, breezy and cool.

Trip Report: Another great day at Loon. It looked like we picked up a couple of inches overnight which smoothed everything out nicely. We immediately boarded the gondola and got going shortly after 9 AM. We took a top to bottom run down Speakeasy which was in great shape. It's a wonderful cruiser to start the day which dumped us out on Lower Rumrunner above the lower set of bumps. We tried them a bit, but the legs were still not quite ready.

Took the Kanc quad and hit Upper Rumrunner which got us somewhat warmed up to try the bumps lower down. The moguls were in fine shape; a bit hard, but the small bit of powder from the snow overnight smoothed them out quite a bit. We would then do three more runs deown Upper Northstar to the Rumrunner bumps. We then headed over to North Peak.

First run was Flume which was in great shape as it's been all week. I hit the entire set of bumps after the traverse and did okay, but they're a bit steeper than Rumrunner so I wasn't as smooth. We also hit Triple Trouble a total of four times today which had the best snow we have seen all week. A great day to practice the bump technique.

It is nice to wake up where the snow is. The views from speak easy to upper rum runner are my favorite of the mountain.

My sister-in-law was in labor yesterday and I wanted to stay in better communication with my wife in case she had the baby and we decided to head down to Boston to see her. Turns out she had a C-section and we're going on our way home tomorrow. A big almost 10 lb. boy BTW...

Plus it is tough to load up the car when you can just step outside your room and go skiing. Looks like it's gonna be a bluebird day today to finish off the trip.

Well I guess thats a good reason! I hope your sister-in-law and her new baby are doing well!

I would have trouble loading up the car and driving somewhere else when I could just ski out the door. Have a nice last day!

I've finally got two videos posted:

Joe on Triple Trouble - Nevermind the bobble (and subsequent nice recovery). This vid really shows the amount and quality of snow on Triple Trouble this day, a trail that is completely natural all season.

Me on Rumrunner - The bumps on Rumrunner were stellar all week.
