Skis - What is the worst pair you have ever had.

That was the first and only snowboard I ever owned, the Burton Elite 150. Got it new I think in winter of 84. Red and Yellow somewhat rainbow pattern, split tail and little metal fin on the bottom.

Sometimes I wish I stuck with the sport, but I was already an accomplished skier, Okemo was the home mountain and that winter the only two areas in Vermont that allowed boards were Stratton and Magic if you got certified. I did it about five times that winter, but only about ten times since. For whatever the reason I have always enjoyed skiing more.

Worst pair

The teal greenRossi 4s that everyone loved (mid 80's) absolutly *ucked. they turned into the biggest noddle after about 3 days of skiing.

haven't owned any of them, but some of the worst skis I've tested were the first generations of shape skis...Elan SCX, Rossi CUT 10.4, Dynastar Max Zero....the Max Zero gets top honors, it was supposed to be an expert ski, had huge lifters on them and the torsional stability of an over cooked noodle...couldn't even hold an edge in Vail. Oh, that reminds me...S skis also sucked donkey nuts. Icelantic Scouts (143cm) were scary on hard snow...an absolute blast in the trees though...could change direction in a nano second, floated over everything and made skiing tight eastern trees downright easy. Once they were back out on the hardpack they were a nightmare...the owner/developer is a guy named Ben Anderson, he was telling me (before I skied them) that they could do anything, anywhere for anyone...Ben is about 5'5 and maybe 140 lbs fully clothed...I'm 6'1 and ~210lbs...maybe the 143 worked for him, but not for me-a little difference in the height/weight to surface area ratio! Since that time they've started building longer skis...

89ish Atomic HV6 RS. It was a GS ski with a slalom core, It either acted like a damp Sl or a nervous GS depending on the tune. Hated them.

i still have my cert pass from stratton. i was bored with skiing. there wasn't anything that i couldn't ski and at the time i was a big skater so it was a natural progression for me. the problem with the equipment then was you where not really carving. when the safari series came out you where able to start really carving. they then took what they learned with those boards and aplied it to the frestyle boards. i love the fact that i have been a part of the sport from almost the very begining. when some little kid says he's oldsckool. i just laugh.

Blizzard something or others..... They were straight, red and shitty.... mounted with some salomon pink and purple binders.... not only did they suck, they were butt ugly 1980's junk...

I would say they were the first ski I put into a dumpster....but I put my 20 year-old Kniesels (210...Red...STIFF) into the dumpster first.

Yes, well that's Rossi's for you.......Foam core and all! Great for the first 10-20 days and then...poof!

Back in the day, my brother had a pair of Spaldings that started to delaminate after like the 2nd day. Those were dogs. Spalding might have made some good skis in the 50's and early 60's (I don't really know) but by the early 70's forget about it!

Spaulding wasn't in the ski business all that long. In the beginning, Spaulding OEMed skis made by an Italian company called Persenico that custom made race stock for the Italian team. Spaulding ended up buying the company only to exit the ski business a few years later. Persenico/Spaulding-label race skis won the World Cup several times in the first half of the 1970's with Gustav Thöni. Their mass market stuff was a quality disaster and I'd be surprised if Spaulding ever made a profit in the ski business. Spaulding also owned Caber and eventually sold their boot company to Rossi.
