My first pair of skis were purchased from the Smuggs rental lodge at the end of the season. My parents got them for me.. boots+skis for 50 bucks. I was in 5th grade I think. The boots were rear loaders and the skis were most certainly the worst ski I've ever skied but you know...they got me into it and at the time I was just as psyched to be on those as I am now on my current Volkl Gotamas.

I had a pair of early-to-mid-90s Kastle bump skis that were absolutely awful. No feel, totally static, not quick or absorbing at all. Luckily (except for my wallet), they pretty much fell apart after two seasons, so I felt entitled to get a new pair of skis.

My first pair of skis - 160cm Hummer's. No lie, that was the brand - not sure what the model name was. Bright yellow with orange lettering. This was '79 or '80.
Hummer USA....that was my first pair of skis too. Bought used at the ski swap. Probably '79. Can't say I didn't like them though.

Had a pair of 213 Kastle Super G's back in college. Don't know what I was thinking with those. Just a little tough to turn.

I'll agree with the Rossi 4S being total crap. I didnt care for the 4M either.

worst pair i've owned though were the Pimped out Gold Volant Genesis i used a couple years ago. i beat them to sh*t in less then 2 seasons. It felt like skiing on overcooked egg noodles.

my 4Ms (first generation white, teal, purple) were good for almost one season of bumps...I maybe got 25 days on them and I was ~160lbs back then (high school junior) I think the only reason I liked them is that they were the first ski "designed" for bumps and that was all I skied back then. After that one season I bought my first skis on a shop form, Elan Ultimate M...they held up MUCH better than the Rossis...three full seasons with life left to spare. Wood core vs foam core...no contest.
