Embarassing moment at work today...

So we were in the lunch room, and there was a cake because it was one employee's 10th anniversary with the company.

The topic started on about cakes, and wedding cakes, because two of our female employees are engaged.

One tells about a bakery that charged $8 per slice of cake for something. Of course I opened my big mouth to immediately exclaim-

"Jeez, for $8 that piece of cake better give me a bl...."

and I stopped, realizing what I was about to say which I had said around my friends any number of times might not be the best choice of words in this setting.

so I think quick and recover with-

"...bl[unintelligable] full tank of gas!"

The two females nodded approvingly like I had just tripped over words. A few of the guys knew what I was about to say and were nearly laughing.

Anyone ever have a situation like that where you're so used to casual language you use around friends that is probably highly insulting depending to other people.... and then almost slip in front of those other people?

Yah, that was interesting.

Yeah, don't I wish...

Err... no, not to each other. They just happen to be engaged at the same point in time.

Probably along with a lot of other people around the world.

most embarassing moment at work

Many years ago I drove a delivery truck. I was bringing boxes of stuff up some stairs at the Unemployment office. Not heavy boxes, just unwieldy. My hands were full as I climbed the stairs that were open to the lobby. All these unemployed people were sitting in chairs in the lobby.

I was wearing a wrap-around skirt and stepped on the hem as I climbed the stairs. The ties ripped off and my skirt fell to the step. I had to carefully bend over and balance my boxes on the step, pick up my skirt, and try to hold it up while I finished my trek. No one moved. They just watched.

That's okay. In my head, they're engaged to each other.
