| Ari | Coppermine Brook & Bridal Veil Falls, NH: 10/22/05 In lew of ascending Mount Washington to attempt some turns from the auto road or NE Snow Fields, I opted for an exploratory hike of sorts up Coppermine Brook. Trail conditions down low were pretty darn muddy with a mini brook running down the trail. However, condiitons on the upper 3/4's of the trail were mearly moist and wet in most areas. I spied a blow down covering half the trail about a third of the way up and did my part to keep the trail open However, about half way up the trail a very large tree in access of a foot and a half in diameter had fallen clear across the trail which was way more than my feble tools could handle. Hopefully a trail tender with a saw will clear that one in due time. I would assume it will be done soon since that trail is on the Franconia Inn's XC touring map and winter is right around the corner. The falls were flowing great! I wish I had been able to get out sooner after the high rains fell. But the flow was more than enough to impress for early Fall! I shared the falls with two other folks, one of which was trying to get up close to the Falls and had professional camera equipment with him. Hope he got a good shot or two! An uneventful hike down followed. ![]() ![]()

| In prior times | Those falls are a beautiful spot. I imagine it must be a fine trip to ski up, spend the night in the shelter, and ski out the next day...

| One of my first waterfall hikes and still a favorite many years later. It's pretty much always wet on the trail and seriously icey in winter. There is a ski trail right to Peabody slope. Many locals use the trail and several side trails to extreme ski. If one crosses the brook on the left side, there's an upper pool and a flat boulder to see a closer look at the falls and have lunch. The Betty Davis bronze plaque to her rescuer is hidden from view by the casual passerby beside the brook. It reads: In Memoriam to Arthur Farnsworth "The Keeper of Stray Ladies" Pecketts - 1939 Presented by a devoted one. He became and was her 2nd husband (of 4).
