Coppermine Brook & Bridal Veil Falls, NH: 10/22/05

In lew of ascending Mount Washington to attempt some turns from the auto road or NE Snow Fields, I opted for an exploratory hike of sorts up Coppermine Brook. Trail conditions down low were pretty darn muddy with a mini brook running down the trail. However, condiitons on the upper 3/4's of the trail were mearly moist and wet in most areas. I spied a blow down covering half the trail about a third of the way up and did my part to keep the trail open

However, about half way up the trail a very large tree in access of a foot and a half in diameter had fallen clear across the trail which was way more than my feble tools could handle. Hopefully a trail tender with a saw will clear that one in due time. I would assume it will be done soon since that trail is on the Franconia Inn's XC touring map and winter is right around the corner.

The falls were flowing great! I wish I had been able to get out sooner after the high rains fell. But the flow was more than enough to impress for early Fall! I shared the falls with two other folks, one of which was trying to get up close to the Falls and had professional camera equipment with him. Hope he got a good shot or two! An uneventful hike down followed.
