I enjoy the new series Rome but am confused about one thing. Why do Romans have a British accent? I could've sworn Rome was in Italy!

Simple- because the Romans were highfalootin', and there's nothing highfalootin' about an Eye-talian accent.

I like it alot too. Only 2 epidsodes left. I wish Deadwood would come back soon, but I've read it won't for some time.

"Rome" is a joint venture between the BBC and HBO. The president of HBO Films, Coliin Callendar is a Brit. Last I heard he was up to be Knighted. HBO has a history of hiring Brittish stage actors for their adapted plays and whatnot. The gentleman who played Maj. Winters in "Band of Brothers" (Ron Livingston) is a Brit for example. If you were an "OZ" Fan you might be suprised to find out that the man who played the Black Muslim Leader, Karim Said (Eaman Walker) is a Brit as well.

In Six Feet Under, the character Brenda Chenowith, played Rachel Griffiths is an Aussie. Never know it by only seeing her in character.

Good acting! If anyone watches "Still Standing" the guy who plays Bill is a brit. He was in "The Full Monte"

rome

I do not know why but in most roman movies the british accent is standard for romans. I have noticed this several times. It may that since the roman empire occupied england for quite some time it is considered aceptable. Well that and the british obsession with the classics.
