| Mount Snow - 12/19/2005 Resort: Mount Snow Date Skied: 12/19/2005 (9:30 to 2:00) Conditions:19 degrees at base of Carinthia, snow and windy at the summit.. Trip Report: I hit snow right around Greenfield on my way up. By the time I had gotten to Handle Road, it was slick. In fact there was an Escort that had hit the ice pack in front of a guard rail and the passenger side wheel was bent in. As he continued to drive, out of control, I pulled off the road to avoid being hit. The road was slick as the "Low Traction" light flashed as all the drive wheels that could grip, did to get me going again. I parked in the Carinthia lot and booted up. There was at least 3 inches of fresh powder on the ground. My first run down was in some nice fresh snow on the Carinthia side (Upper Nitro). I then worked my way over to Sunbrook and up the Bear Trap double. The moguls were big with pockets of powder in them. The three times that I took the lift, I did not see anybody ski or board it. I then headed over to the Main Mountain and took the Summit Express Quad to the windy summit. I did a few top to bottom runs from this lift (no lines at all!). I then worked over to the Canyon Quad for a few runs and then off to North Face. I saw a couple of people come down Ripcord. I did two runs down Challenger. I then worked my way back to the Summit Express for a few runs and then skied over to Carinthia for a few more runs and then left. I got a lot of runs in thanks to no lines and the detachable quads on the Carinthia & main mountain. Overall an awesome day. Riding the Nitro Express (Carinthia): ![]() Fresh tracks. At least 3 inches of fresh powder (from Nitro) ![]() My first time in 5yrs skiing in fresh snow. ![]() Attempting to take a picture of the powder puffing up at the skis plowed through. ![]() A trail on the main mountain towards Carinthia. ![]() Some small bumps on a trail where only about 4 tracks were. This is on Overbrook (Canyon Express). ![]() The Somerset Reservoir. No Snowmobiles on it today. ![]() From the Challenger Lift. Watch out for the crowded terrain. ![]() Haystack from the Milky Way (on the way to Sunbrook from Carinthia) |
