Jiminy Peak, Hancock, MA

Sunny, mid to high 20's, "(very) packed powder"

Report

Arrived at 8:45 and found the parking lot pretty full. I guess I wasn't the only one looking to get in a quick day before the weather crapped things up. Besides, I had a "freebie" to use up. Immediately hooked up with a guy next to me in the parking lot. We hit the Berkshire Express at 9:20 and had about a 1 minute wait. Despite the number of cars in the lot, the lodge was uncrowded, and we had no lines at the lifts all day. The snow Sunday night(they claimed 10") had "settled" down to about 2"-3" on top of what is basically a glacier. In any case, it was delightfully "edgeable" and I spent the day really cranking out endless sets of GS turns. On the second run we picked up a third guy, and hammered every open trail from one side of the mountain to the other. The only black that was closed was "Cutter." All the others had enough snow on them so that the occasional icy spot was of no consequence. By about 11:00 the sun started to soften the base and made the surface even more enjoyable. We ripped it up non-stop until about 2:15, when my new "buddies" decided their quads were "toast." We had such a good time together we swapped email addy's and agreed to stay in touch. I got some water and went out again until around 3:30. It was an excellent day both in terms of what we can expect from eastern skiing, and making new friends.

Smart getting out yesterday. Sun coming out. I can't remember skiing in the warm sun for quite a while.

I wrote them both to establish contact. If I hear from them, I'll refer them to our forum. As of the moment I haven't heard from either of them.
