| Cooking Single Let me start of with the fact that I am extremely bored. I have been up here at school for a couple of weeks now, and the school still doesnt open for a few more days. Bordom city. As a result, you might have noticed increased activity on my part over here at AZ. Not that I don't love the boards, but spending my whole day here is a little sad. I'm running out of things to say. From this comes my latest brain child...the "what did you cook when you were single" thread. C'mon, we've all been living on our own at one time. Most of us are guys, and most guys stink in the kitchen, so tell us all your favorite recipes for life away from mom. Personally, as a college student living off campus for 4 years, i have developed many "slop" recipies. Im going to start with my two favorites. 1. the "Whatever". This meal comes from me just throwing a whole bunch of crap in a skillet one day when i was hungry. I have now refined it to something I cook up for some of my lady friends. (chicks dig guys that can cook without giving them salmonilla) WHAT YOU NEED: 7 Small precooked meatballs (I use omaha mail order) 1/2 lb of cylander pasta (penne, ziti, who cares) 1/4 small bag of frozen peas 1 jar of alfreddo sauce (bertolli is best) garlic, lots of fresh garlic (mince it your self) 1/3 lb of mushrooms (slice them yourself) fresh pepper grinder WHAT TO DO: 1. a. cook the meatballs according to the directions. b. In really big pan/skillet thing, brown the minced garlic (amount is a personal preference) and sliced mushrooms together (use the garlic as a guide, mushrooms are always good) on medium heat. c. cook peas according to directions d. cook pasta according to directions 2. a. slice the meatballs in half and add to the pan b. wait 3 minutes 3. reduce pan heat to low, add sauce to pan. pepper to taste. Also add peas. Heat it till bubbleing just a little. Your done, now go eat it on the living room couch cause no one is watching you. Note: using chicken and/or vodka sauce is great too. do not combine vodka sauce and peas...its bad. Secret recipe number 2 "MONSTER BURGERS" YOU NEED: 1/2 lb ground beef (80% is best) 3 strips of bacon 1/2 nice sized onion 3-4 good sized mushrooms bun (i like onion or sourdough rolls) worchester sauce some real sharp cheddar 1.a. slice up onion and mushroom b. combine beef with a little worchester sauce c. start cooking bacon according to directions 2. brwon onions first till they start to caramelize, add mushrooms later, mushrooms take much less time to cook. adding a little drop of cooking oil makes this easyer for some reason. 3. split beef into 1/2 and 2/3 parts. turn the 2/3 part into a bowl shape. 4. break 1/2 strip of bacon into small bits, add into "bowl" with some of the onions and mushrooms. Layer crumbled cheddar into it also. Now seal the whole thing real well usin the last 1/3 of beef. The stuff in now inside the burger. 5. forman grill the whole burger thing. you really need to use a forman for this. pan just doesnt work. bbq might, but i havent tried it. also toast the bun and melt some cheddar on it. 6. put burger on bun, top with rest on onions, mushrooms and bacon. 7. enjoy, dont plan on moving to much for a few hours after eating this beast. Your probably have a heart attack if you try to move. wow, im really bored if i just spent an hour writing that.

| Not only can you eat while on the couch because no one is watching, you can cut out the middle man and eat directly from the pan! God....I can't believe I just said that. I've been a bachelorette my whole life. I'm not gay, just very picky. My favorite thing to cook that is gross, is to scrape all the toppings, including the cheese, off leftover pizza, and mix it into a giant omelet. Yesssss! |

| No, no, all single cooking should be eaten directly off the floor to eliminate the need for a vacuum. And zowidoobie, that actually sounds pretty damn good. I'm going to have to try that. With mushroom pizza. Mmm......

| Cut out the middle man, indeed- there's nothing better than curling up on the couch with a nice hot pot of mac and cheese and a half gallon of milk. Good stuff. When I was in college (the first time, anyway), my girlfriend at the time and I started putting together a "No-Budget Gourmet" cookbook of all the wonderful dishes we cooked up with whatever was in the cabinet. It's amazing teh variety of things you can do with that tub of chocolate frosting you bought for that one cake you baked once for someone, sometime. You can eat it, too.
