Crotched Mountain (NH) - 01/18/04

Ski Area: Crotched Mountain

Date Skied: 1/18/04

Conditions: Excellent, plenty of coverage, no scratchy surface!

Trip Report:

Wow! I was impressed with this "reborn" ski area located in Southern New Hampshire. I pulled into the lot at 9:45am and I was on the slopes shortly after 10:00am. There were no lift lines. Lots of cars. People have criticized the "warehouse" look of the new lodge. Yes it is generic, but it is a well planned and functional lodge. I love the automatic sliding doors.

There were two quads , a double (by the condos) and a magic carpet running today. I took the longer quad to the top for the first run. This and the other quad look like new lifts. The first run was top to bottom on Satellite Summit to Meteor. Crotched has steeps but does not have a lot of traversing trails. The longest run down for me was from the longer quad to Moon Walk to Milky Way to Super Nova to Comet to the bottom of the double. This lift looks like it was an original with new chairs. The conditions were aewsome on all of the trails. I did many runs as the trails from the summit basically go straight down.

Crotched Ski Area was about 15 minutes from Peterborough, NH. It took me 2 ¼ hrs to get back but almost 3 hrs to get there. I got lost! I followed a sign to "Crotched Mountain Center". Well let me tell you it is not a ski area. It is a rehab facility.

I took a few pictures, there on my site:

Crotched Mountain

I've been wondering about Crotched - last time I was there was 1975. Knew several racers there.

I was bummed the link you provided for pics didn't work for me.

Definitely plan on trying it out!
