wow- I am gone one day and the world changes. I voted no- for many of the reasons stated. I am intimidated enough posting here as a noski (the nerve!) and am more comfortable at skiMRV where I feel more closely connected and am shown with my name and job title. I didn't, and don't, see the benefit of a system like this in a forum where people are respectful, helpful, and fun.

However, I will say: "REPS TO YOU!!" for launching a thread that has seen so much action in a time of year there is not much else to talk about! Brilliant move.

edit: and thank you Greg for continuing to look for ways to make this forum fun, inviting, interesting, and moving forward- even if this one didn't work!

Pretty overwhelming majority.

I still think it has some positive aspects, but if it scares folks then it's counterproductive.

Off with it!

The single biggest factor for me was that this might intimidate new members. I've said all along that I want this forum to remain a place where anyone can feel comfortable posting. The minimal benefits from the User Rep system were far outweighed by this intimidation potential, leading me to change my mind, my vote, and the forum settings...

Great post Noski. *posi reps...OOOPS! Too late*

Greg, Noski already mentioned...but I am compelled to reiterate...thanks for continuously looking for ways to make AZ better. As for the two threads...and the poll, nicely done.

As for a lack of "visible" rep points etc...I think the folks who post/lurk/participate in this forum generate their own credibility. When Dan DiPiro posted origianlly, he would have had zero points. It would take him quite a while to generate a visible value reflecting his "actual" value (IMO).

I'll stop beating the horse now...appears to be dead.

*I voted "no"*

I'll second that. You have to come up with creative ideas to keep things rolling in the off season.

Thanks for the kind words, everybody. Yeah, well user reputations went over about as well as a fart in church, but it definitely sparked some interesting discussion!
