| There are many more on the google search: ALexa. This is just one reference that originally concerned me: Is Alexa Spying on You? http://www.imilly.com/alexa.htm Makes for good reading during the snowfall we're having here! |

| Nassahegan, CT: 8/14 | I found this page: http://www.alexa.com/browse/categories?catid=10379 Kinda neat. We're the "Reviewers Rave" site thanks to the 7 great Amazon reviews we've received (click here to find out how to add your own). We're also the third most popular site in the "New England" category. |

| My spyware software prevents me from your link Logged Entry Monday, Apr 5 2004 at 08:42:01 AM Remote Port: 1185 Local Port: 80 Host: 127.0.0.1 (SpyBlocker) [SPYWARE] [BUG] [BLOCKED] GET /browse/categories?catid=10379 HTTP/1.0 Accept: */* Referer: http://AlpineZone.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=8440 Accept-Language: en-us User-Agent: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.1) Host: www.alexa.com Connection: Keep-Alive and I'm pleased that it does because due to the many security reasons I stated above. Alexa is included with I. E. It is added to eAcceleration, Download Accelerator and others as a "drive by download." Ad-aware, Spybot and others will clean these pests. Alexa and alexa.bckp have been removed from my pc many times in six months and the quarrantine details list the reason as "tracking cookies." The alexa-key is a browser-addin which collects personal data about your surfing habits. It has a tracking cookie and is a data miner. For more info go to the producers of alexa: http://www.alexa.com and you can read for hours how they want to track everyone. No thank you. __________________ I do not want it on my machine. |

| Nassahegan, CT: 8/14 | Magic - you've stated already your distaste for tracking cookies. Obviously Alexa tracks where you go as that's how it is able to determine traffic rank. I've had it installed for some time and have seen no ill-effect. To each his own. Some people are big privacy nuts and that's fine, and I'm not advocating that people install it if they're uncomfortable. It's just a fun thing to watch... |

| Nassahegan, CT: 8/14 | I've uninstalled the Alexa toolbar. Not so much because it caused any problems, but after some time using it, I feel it's basically useless in determining a site's popularity. Take a look at this graph: http://www.alexa.com/data/details/tr...zone.com#graph Any guesses on when my two vacations (I wasn't on the site at all) were? If one user (me) can have such an impact, it doesn't speak well for the relevance of the technology... |
